Update Your TradeLyser Profile Information

Your TradeLyser profile is how the platform displays your name on reports, how support identifies your account, and how optional settings such as timezone align journal entries with Indian market hours. Keeping profile information current helps mentors, exports, and notifications stay accurate as your trading journal grows.

This guide explains how Indian traders can update personal details, change contact email with verification, adjust display preferences, and avoid common mistakes that block saves or cause mismatched timestamps in TradeLyser.

Overview

Profile settings live under your account Settings area. Most fields update immediately after you save; email changes typically require re-verification so nobody can hijack your trading journal by altering contact details without access to the inbox.

Fields you can usually manage:

  • Full name (display name on UI and some exports)
  • Email address (with verification workflow)
  • Phone number (optional, for contact or alerts if enabled)
  • Profile picture or avatar
  • Timezone and regional display preferences
  • Language or UI preferences where offered

Profile updates do not delete trades, tags, or broker connections. They affect identity, communication, and how dates may render in the interface.

Prerequisites

ItemNotes
Active TradeLyser loginYou must know your current password or use an active session
Access to current emailRequired if you change email—verification goes to the new address
Access to new emailIf changing email, open the new inbox before starting
Supported browserUse an updated browser; disable aggressive ad blockers on Settings if saves fail
PermissionOnly account owners should edit profile; mentee accounts may have limited fields

If you signed up with Google and never set a password, some security actions may still require Google re-authentication or adding a password under Security settings first.

Step-by-step: Update your profile

Step 1 — Open profile settings

  1. Log in to TradeLyser at https://tradelyser.com.
  2. Click your profile icon or avatar in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Profile (or AccountProfile, depending on layout).

You should see editable fields and your current avatar.

Step 2 — Update display name and phone

  1. Edit Full name to match how you want to appear on dashboards and shared mentor views.
  2. Enter or update Phone number if the field is available. Include country code for non-India numbers when the UI supports it.
  3. Do not click Save until you have finished all edits on the page if the form uses a single save button.

Use your real name or a consistent pseudonym mentors recognize—avoid stock ticker names in the legal name field if you export reports for compliance or tax discussion with a CA.

Step 3 — Change email address (if needed)

  1. Click into Email address and type the new email.
  2. Click Save changes.
  3. TradeLyser sends a verification link to the new email.
  4. Open that inbox, click Verify, and return to TradeLyser.
  5. Until verification completes, some features may continue using the old email for login; follow on-screen prompts.

Important: Changing email does not automatically forward old broker import notifications. Update any saved login bookmarks to use the new email.

Step 4 — Update profile picture

  1. Click the avatar or Upload photo control.
  2. Choose a square image (JPG or PNG) under the size limit shown in the UI.
  3. Crop if the editor appears, then confirm.
  4. Save the profile page if required separately.

Google-linked accounts may still show Google avatars until you upload a custom image.

Step 5 — Set timezone and display preferences

  1. Find Timezone and select your primary zone (e.g., Asia/Kolkata for IST).
  2. Adjust any Date format or Number format options if present.
  3. Save changes.

Correct timezone keeps daily journal boundaries aligned with when you actually traded on NSE/BSE session dates, especially if you review trades late at night or from abroad.

Step 6 — Confirm success

  1. Look for a green success toast or banner.
  2. Refresh the page and verify the new name and avatar in the header.
  3. Log out and log back in once if the header still shows cached data.

Good practices for Indian traders

  • Set timezone to IST unless you physically trade from another zone long term.
  • Use an email you will keep for years—broker CSV imports are tied to your account, not your broker email.
  • Upload a professional avatar if you share mentor dashboards or screenshots publicly.

FAQ

Will changing my name affect historical trades?

No. Trades retain symbol, date, and P&L data. Only display labels and some export headers may show the new name.

I changed email but cannot log in with the new address.

Complete verification from the new inbox first. If stuck, try the old email once, then use reset forgotten password on the address TradeLyser recognizes. Contact support@tradelyser.com with both addresses.

Can I use a Gmail alias (plus addressing)?

If TradeLyser accepts the address format at sign-up, aliases usually work like normal Gmail. Verification must reach that alias inbox.

Does updating phone enable SMS alerts?

Only if TradeLyser has SMS or phone-based notifications enabled for your plan. Check notification preferences after adding a number.

Mentee view shows wrong name—what do I fix?

Mentees have their own profiles. Mentors see mentee names from mentee accounts. Each party should update their own Profile settings.

Can I remove my phone number?

Clear the field and save if the UI allows empty phone. Some flows may require a number for two-factor features when launched.

Why does my avatar not update on mobile?

Force-close the app or clear mobile browser cache. Reopen TradeLyser and pull to refresh on the dashboard.

Will profile email change cancel my subscription?

No automatic cancellation, but receipts and dunning emails go to the verified email. Update billing contact in subscription settings if separate.

Is profile data shared with brokers?

Profile contact details are not sent to Zerodha, Groww, or other brokers through profile edit. Broker connections use OAuth or API tokens under broker integration docs.

Can I have two display names for two strategies?

TradeLyser typically uses one display name per user. Use tags and strategy board for strategy-level organization.

Who can edit my profile on a team plan?

Depends on plan and roles. Account owners edit their own profile unless admin features say otherwise. Ask your admin before changing shared org contact email.

Prevention and best practices

Verify new email before deleting the old mailbox. Losing access to the verified inbox can lock you out of password reset.

Change timezone before month-end reviews so daily P&L groups match your intended session dates.

Avoid special characters in name fields that break CSV exports (/, \, unpaired quotes).

Screenshot your profile page before major email migrations for support reference.

Do not put PAN, Aadhaar, or broker passwords in name or phone fields—profile is not a secure vault.

After divorce or firm split, update email and password promptly; journaling accounts are personal financial records.

Sync mentor expectations if you display a legal name but trade under a firm brand—clarify in mentor notes, not only in profile.

Regional and display settings for Indian market hours

Indian traders should confirm Asia/Kolkata (IST) unless they physically trade from another country for months at a time. Journal entries, daily checklists, and calendar widgets often group trades by local midnight boundaries; an incorrect timezone can make a Monday NSE session appear on Sunday in your log. If you spend part of the year abroad, update timezone when you return to India rather than leaving a temporary travel zone active for months.

Display name changes appear on PDF or CSV exports your mentor receives—update before sending month-end exports. If your billing GST or invoice name must match a registered business, cross-check billing after profile edits so receipts remain valid for your records.
