How to Customize Your TradeLyser Dashboard Layout
Your TradeLyser dashboard is the command center for daily trading review. Instead of scrolling through menus to find net profit, win rate, or equity curve data, you can place the metrics you care about front and center. Customizing the dashboard layout means choosing which widgets appear, where they sit on the grid, and how your screen looks when you open TradeLyser each morning or after the market closes.
Layout customization does not change your underlying trade data, broker connections, or account history. It only changes how information is displayed on the current dashboard template. You can build a minimal “morning scan” view with three small widgets, a deep “weekly review” board with large charts, or separate layouts for intraday versus swing trading. This guide walks through edit mode, adding and arranging widgets, saving safely, and best practices so your dashboard stays fast, readable, and aligned with your goals.
Before you customize, ensure trades are synced and the dashboard loads normally. If the page is blank or stuck loading, see Dashboard not loading first. When you are ready to add individual widgets from the library, Add widgets to your dashboard complements this guide.
What dashboard customization includes
TradeLyser dashboard customization covers:
- Entering edit mode on the active template
- Adding widgets into empty slots from the widget library
- Removing widgets you no longer need
- Saving or canceling layout changes
- Working within a template so other saved templates stay unchanged until you edit them
Customization is template-specific. If you use multiple layouts—for example “Intraday” and “Monthly review”—each template keeps its own widget set. Switch templates from the dashboard header when you want a different pre-built view; see Switch between dashboard templates for that workflow.
Prerequisites
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Active TradeLyser account | Dashboard is available after sign-in |
| At least one connected or imported account | Widgets need trade data to display |
| Dashboard page loads | Fix loading issues before editing layout |
| Permission to edit layout | Same account that owns the template |
Step 1: Open the dashboard
- Sign in to TradeLyser.
- From the main navigation, open Dashboard.
- Confirm the correct account and date range (if shown in the header). Widgets respect these filters even in edit mode previews after save.
- Note the current template name in the top bar so you know which layout you are editing.
If data looks wrong before you customize, fix filters or sync first—layout changes will not correct P&L calculation issues.
Step 2: Enter edit mode
- On the Dashboard, click Edit Layout (typically top-right).
- The interface switches to edit mode:
- Empty slots show dashed borders and + Add Widget.
- Existing widgets show Remove (and move controls if enabled).
- Save Layout and Cancel appear at the top.
- Review the grid: TradeLyser uses fixed slots sized for small and large widgets. Large widgets occupy more cells; plan placement so charts are not cramped.
Tip: Use Cancel to discard accidental removals or moves. Unsaved changes are lost when you cancel.
Step 3: Add widgets to empty slots
- Click + Add Widget in any empty slot.
- The widget library opens, grouped by category (Performance, Charts, Advanced, and similar).
- Select a widget. It appears in the slot immediately.
- Repeat for other empty slots.
For a full catalog and sizing notes, use Add widgets to your dashboard. Common starting trio for daily review:
| Widget | Size | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Net P&L / P&L widget | Small | Headline profit for the period |
| Trade Win % | Small | Win rate at a glance |
| Daily Net Cumulative P&L or Performance chart | Large | Trend and drawdown context |
Step 4: Remove or replace widgets
- On a widget you do not want, click Remove.
- The slot becomes empty; add a different widget if desired.
- Removing a widget does not delete trades or reports—only the display on this template.
Detailed steps: Remove widgets from your dashboard.
Step 5: Arrange for readability
TradeLyser does not require a single “correct” layout, but proven patterns help:
| Zone (top to bottom) | Suggested content |
|---|---|
| Top row | Small KPIs: P&L, win rate, today’s P&L |
| Middle | Large charts: equity curve, daily performance, intraday curve |
| Bottom | Secondary metrics: streaks, discipline, journal timeline |
Left-to-right priority: Place the metric you check first (often net P&L) in the top-left slot for LTR reading habits.
Avoid clutter: Five small KPIs plus three large charts can overwhelm a laptop screen. Start with six to eight widgets and add more only when you use them weekly.
Pair metrics: P&L with win rate; profit factor with average win/loss; monthly P&L with Monthly performance widget for the same story at different granularities.
Step 6: Save your layout
- Click Save Layout.
- Edit mode exits; widgets load live data for your current filters.
- Refresh once if a widget shows a spinner longer than usual after first save.
Your layout is stored on the current template and syncs across devices signed into the same account.
Step 7: Refresh data without leaving edit mode
After saving, use the dashboard refresh control (if available) or reload the page to pull the latest broker sync. Customization does not auto-refresh underlying data. For stale numbers after sync, see account and date filters on the dashboard header.
Layout ideas by trading style
| Style | Focus widgets | Layout tip |
|---|---|---|
| Day trading | Today’s P&L, intraday curve, trade time performance | One large intraday chart; few small KPIs |
| Swing / positional | Net P&L, equity curve, monthly performance | Emphasize multi-day cumulative charts |
| Weekly review | Win rate, profit factor, strategy board | Match with Generate reports |
| Risk-focused | Max drawdown, average drawdown, risk-reward | Keep drawdown widgets visible, not buried |
Save these as separate templates via Create a dashboard template instead of overwriting one layout repeatedly.
Customization vs templates vs reports
| Feature | Dashboard customize | Template | Reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Changes on-screen widgets | Yes | Yes (per template) | No |
| Multiple saved layouts | Via templates | Yes | N/A |
| Export / PDF | Limited on dashboard | N/A | Yes |
| Deep drill-down tables | Widget level | N/A | Full reports |
Use the dashboard for daily habit; use reports for month-end analysis and sharing with mentors.
Troubleshooting layout issues
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot enter edit mode | Page not fully loaded | Dashboard not loading |
| Save disabled or fails | Network or session timeout | Re-sign in; retry Save |
| Widget empty after save | No trades in date range | Widen dates; verify sync |
| Layout reverted | Canceled instead of saved | Re-edit; click Save Layout |
| Wrong template edited | Multiple templates | Check template name; switch if needed |

Best practices
- Name templates clearly (e.g. “Morning – indices”, “Friday review”) when you maintain more than one layout.
- Limit widgets to those you act on; unused tiles create noise.
- Align date range with the story you tell (today vs month vs YTD).
- Revisit quarterly after strategy changes—remove widgets tied to old habits.
- Learn metric meanings in Interpret widget metrics so customization supports decisions, not vanity numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Does customizing the dashboard delete any trades?
No. Layout changes only affect which widgets appear on the template. Your trade history, imports, and broker data remain intact.
Can I customize the dashboard on mobile?
Mobile may offer a simplified dashboard view. For full edit mode and the widget library, use desktop or tablet landscape when possible. See mobile dashboard docs if you trade primarily from phone.
Do all accounts share one dashboard layout?
Templates and layouts are tied to your TradeLyser user account. Widget data still respects the selected trading account filter on the dashboard.
What is the difference between Edit Layout and Templates?
Edit Layout changes widgets on the current template. Templates let you create, duplicate, or switch entire layouts. Use both: templates for scenarios, edit mode for fine-tuning.
Can I undo after saving?
There is no multi-step undo history. Re-enter edit mode, remove or add widgets, and save again. Cancel only helps before save.
Why do two widgets show different P&L?
They may use different definitions (realized vs cumulative, today vs period) or react differently to filters. Compare tooltips and read Interpret widget metrics.
How many widgets should I use?
Most traders perform well with six to ten tiles. More than twelve on one screen rarely improves decisions.
Will customization slow my dashboard?
Many heavy charts can increase load time. Prefer one or two large charts plus small KPIs; remove unused widgets.
Can mentors see my custom layout?
Mentee access policies vary; layout is usually personal to your login. Performance data visibility follows mentee permissions, not widget arrangement.
