Enable Browser Notifications in TradeLyser

Browser notifications let TradeLyser alert you on your desktop or laptop even when the app tab is in the background or minimized—ideal for end-of-day broker sync, import completion, large P&L moves, and AI analysis ready states. You still control what fires through notification preferences and category settings; this guide covers permissions, in-app toggles, testing, and fixing common blockers on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

Pair browser push with notification history so you never lose a link after dismissing a popup.

What browser notifications are (and are not)

Browser notifications are OS-level popups tied to your browser profile. They are separate from:

They are best for time-sensitive, actionable events while you work in other apps (broker terminal, Excel, Slack).

Good fit for browser pushBetter as email or in-app only
Sync/import finishedMonthly billing receipt
Sync failed — action neededLong-form weekly digest

Prerequisites

  1. A supported desktop browser (current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari).
  2. HTTPS connection to TradeLyser (required for permission prompts).
  3. Logged-in TradeLyser account with notifications allowed for at least one category.
  4. OS notification center enabled (Windows Focus assist / macOS Do Not Disturb can block display).

Step 1: Allow notifications in your browser

When TradeLyser prompts you

  1. After enabling push in settings (Step 2), the browser may show “tradelyser.com wants to show notifications.”
  2. Click Allow (not Block).

If you blocked earlier

Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the lock or tune icon left of the address bar on TradeLyser.
  2. Open Site settingsNotificationsAllow.
  3. Reload the page.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the lock iconConnection secureMore information.
  2. Permissions tab → Receive NotificationsAllow.

Safari (macOS)

  1. Safari → Settings → Websites → Notifications.
  2. Find TradeLyser → Allow.
  3. Ensure macOS System Settings → Notifications allows Safari.

Enterprise or managed PCs

IT policies may block notifications. If Allow is greyed out, request an exception or rely on email + in-app history.

Step 2: Enable browser notifications in TradeLyser

  1. Go to Settings (gear in sidebar — see navigate sidebar).
  2. Open Notification Settings (notification preferences).
  3. Find Browser Notifications (or Desktop push) master toggle.
  4. Turn it ON.
  5. For each category (Trading, Sync, Analytics, etc.), ensure Browser is checked where you want popups. Details: notification preferences by category.
  6. Click Save Preferences.

Without per-category browser channels enabled, the master toggle alone may not surface trade-specific popups.

Step 3: Send a test notification

  1. In the same settings screen, click Send Test (or Test browser notification).
  2. A system popup should appear within a few seconds.
  3. Click the popup to confirm it focuses TradeLyser (optional).
  4. Open the bell icon and confirm a matching entry in notification history.

If test fails, work through Troubleshooting before changing trading categories.

What you can get notified about

Typical browser events (exact list depends on your plan and toggles):

EventWhy traders enable it
Trade sync completeKnow when sync broker trades finished before review
New trades importedCSV or API import done — verify count in trades log
Large P&L alertRisk awareness on volatile days
Daily summary readyPrompt to journal on trading calendar
AI analysis doneOpen AI analytics when report completes
Sync failureFix auth or connection before next session (trades not syncing)

Security-sensitive alerts (new device login) may also use browser channel when configured with login alerts.

Quiet hours and frequency

Reduce noise without disabling sync alerts entirely:

  1. In Notification Settings, enable Quiet hours / Do not disturb (evening to pre-market).
  2. Move low-urgency categories to Daily digest in category preferences.
  3. Keep Sync and System on instant browser delivery during market days.

Digest mode batches non-urgent items; critical failures should remain instant.

Browser-specific tips

Chrome and Edge (Chromium)

  • Notifications respect Windows Focus assist; set to Priority only or off during trading hours.
  • Multiple Chrome profiles need permission per profile.

Firefox

  • Check Permissions → Autoplay is unrelated; only Notifications matter.
  • Private browsing may not persist Allow—use normal window for daily trading.

Safari

  • Safari 17+ on macOS supports web push for allowed sites; iOS Safari has stricter rules—use mobile app or email on iPhone for urgent alerts.

Privacy and security

  • Browser notifications show short text on screen lock; avoid sensitive broker passwords in shared environments.
  • Anyone at your unlocked PC can read popup text—lock workstation when away.
  • Revoke site permission instantly from browser settings if you sell the machine.
  • TradeLyser does not place trades via notifications; they are informational only.

Workflow: sync day with browser push

  1. 3:35 PM IST — trigger manual sync from Settings → Accounts.
  2. Continue reviewing charts in another app.
  3. Popup: “Sync complete — 24 trades.”
  4. Click through → verify in Trades; if count wrong, see missing trades.
  5. Complete daily checklist and track completion.

Per-browser permission reference

BrowserWhere to reset Allow
Chromechrome://settings/content/notifications → find TradeLyser
Edgeedge://settings/content/notifications
FirefoxSettings → Privacy → Permissions → Notifications
SafariSafari → Settings → Websites → Notifications

After reset, return to TradeLyser, toggle browser notifications OFF → ON, and run Send Test.

Coordinating browser push with email digests

Avoid duplicate noise when both channels fire for the same category:

  1. Set Analytics to email daily digest + browser off.
  2. Keep Sync on browser instant + email off if you watch the desk.
  3. Review a week of notification history and adjust category preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Do browser notifications work when the TradeLyser tab is closed?

Usually no—the browser must be running (tab can be in background). Fully quitting the browser stops web push until you open TradeLyser again.

Are browser notifications free on all plans?

Delivery is a product feature; some alert types may be plan-gated (e.g. advanced AI). Check compare plans for limits.

Can I use browser notifications on mobile?

Mobile browsers often restrict web push. Prefer the TradeLyser mobile experience or email; see mobile access.

Will enabling browser notifications spam me?

Only for categories and channels you enable. Use category preferences and quiet hours to limit volume.

I clicked Block by mistake—how do I fix it?

Reset notifications to Allow in browser site settings, reload TradeLyser, toggle browser notifications OFF and ON, then Send Test.

Do browser notifications replace email?

No. They are an additional channel. Keep email on for billing and security if you want an off-device record.

Why does Send Test work but sync alerts do not?

Sync category may have browser disabled, or sync failed silently—check sync history.

Are notifications sent for mentee account activity?

Mentors see mentee-related access alerts on their account; mentee trade sync alerts fire on the mentee login. See grant mentee access.

Can I customize the sound of TradeLyser notifications?

Sounds are controlled by the OS and browser, not TradeLyser. Adjust system notification sounds for your browser app.

Is data in browser notifications encrypted?

Content travels over HTTPS to your browser; the popup text is visible on your device. Treat like any local alert.

Should I enable browser notifications on a VPS or remote desktop?

Only if you actively watch that session; otherwise use email to your primary device to avoid missing popups on an unattended server.

Do checklist reminders use browser push?

Only if checklist or System categories have browser enabled—see notification preferences by category.
