How to Bulk Tag Multiple Trades in TradeLyser

Tags turn a flat broker export into a searchable trading journal. Bulk tagging applies one or more labels—strategy name, market regime, mistake category—to every selected trade in a single action. Without it, tagging last week’s thirty trades feels tedious; with it, you maintain taxonomy discipline that powers Tag Performance and AI insights.

This guide covers the bulk tag workflow in TradeLyser, when to tag in bulk vs individually, how to design tag names, and how to fix tags that did not stick.

Why bulk tagging matters

Indian traders often import or sync dozens of trades per week across Nifty, Bank Nifty, and stock picks. Consistent tags answer:

  • Which setup made money in choppy markets?
  • Did I violate rules on tagged fomo trades?
  • How does opening-range-breakout compare to pullback this quarter?

Bulk tagging is the fastest way to assign the same context to a cohort—e.g., all trades from “Budget day session” or “Trial account week.”

Before you bulk tag

  1. Define tags in Create Custom Tags—colors and names upfront.
  2. Filter the trades log to the exact set you mean (filter by date, symbol).
  3. Skim the visible count in the summary bar.
  4. Optional: export backup via Export Filtered Data.

If trades are missing, resolve Missing Trades before tagging air.

Step 1: Select trades to tag

  1. Open Trades Log (view trades log).
  2. Apply filters (date, symbol, account, win/loss).
  3. Check boxes on target rows OR Select all on page.
  4. For “all March trades,” set March date filter then use select-all per page if needed.

Parent overview: Bulk Operations.

Step 2: Open Bulk Tag

  1. With selection active, click Bulk Actions.
  2. Choose Add Tags or Bulk Tag (label varies by version).
  3. Tag picker modal opens.

Step 3: Choose tags to apply

Existing tags

  • Click one or more tags (multi-select supported in most builds).
  • Tags append to existing labels unless dialog says Replace.

Create new tag inline

  1. Type new name in Create tag field.
  2. Pick color if prompted.
  3. New tag applies to selection and saves to library for future trades.

Avoid near-duplicate names (orb vs ORB vs opening-range).

Step 4: Apply and verify

  1. Click Apply or Save.
  2. Wait for success message: “Tags added to N trades.”
  3. Scroll list—badge chips should appear on rows.
  4. Open 2–3 trades in detail view to confirm multiple tags present.
  5. Run Tag Performance report after session ends to validate analytics.

Bulk tag use cases

Strategy board alignment

Tag all trades belonging to “Week 12 – Mean Reversion” before comparing on Strategy Board.

Post-import organization

After CSV import or broker sync, bulk tag import-2025-q1 until you refine per-trade tags.

Mistake review batch

Filter losses > ₹X, bulk tag rule-violation, then journal in Discipline Diary.

Event days

Tag all trades on RBI policy day with macro-event for later macro analysis.

Test vs live account

Tag paper trades paper so reports exclude them via tag filters.

Tag taxonomy best practices

PrincipleExample
One concept per tagbreakout not breakout-win
Separate setup vs outcomesetup-vwap + win/loss is P&L filter
Limited count15–30 active tags, archive rest
Consistent casinggap-fill everywhere
Strategy vs mistakestrategy-x vs error-late-entry

Review monthly—merge unused tags in settings.

Bulk tag vs single-trade tag

SituationMethod
Same strategy all weekBulk tag
One trade needs unique mistake noteSingle trade + Add Notes
Mixed setups in one dayFilter by time block, bulk each block separately
Mobile quick tag one tradeSwipe action on mobile trades

Combine bulk tag with bulk rate

Workflow for weekly review:

  1. Filter week → bulk tag strategy.
  2. Sub-filter best executions → Bulk Rate 4–5 stars.
  3. Sub-filter rule breaks → bulk tag discipline-break + rate 1–2 stars.

Ratings measure execution quality; tags measure setup type—keep both dimensions.

Reporting after bulk tag

  1. ReportsTag Performance — win rate and P&L by tag.
  2. Dashboard widgets filtered by tag if configured.
  3. AI analytics (plan permitting) uses tags as context—garbage tags in, weak suggestions out.

If report empty, widen date range and confirm tags visible on trades log.

Tag migration and cleanup projects

When you rename a strategy mid-year:

  1. Create the new canonical tag in settings.
  2. Filter old tag → bulk add new tag → verify both appear.
  3. Remove old tag per trade or via support if mass-remove unavailable.
  4. Document rename in Notebook so historical reports make sense.

Quarterly cleanup: list tags with <5 trades in Tag Performance—merge or delete orphans to keep filters fast.

Bulk tag after broker events

EventSuggested bulk tag
RBI policy daymacro-rbi
Budget sessionmacro-budget
Stock results weekearnings-season
Trial week new setupexperiment-mar-2025

These meta tags separate regime analysis from pure technical setup tags like vwap-bounce.

Troubleshooting

Tags not applying

  • Zero rows selected—re-check boxes.
  • Session timeout—log in again (Manage Sessions).
  • Browser extension blocking modal—try incognito.

Only some trades tagged

  • Pagination: select-all may be page-only—repeat pages.
  • Locked broker rows may restrict certain metadata—edit single trade to test.

Duplicate tags on report

  • Merge synonyms in tag settings; bulk remove wrong tag per trade if supported.

Tags disappeared after sync

Wrong tag on 200 trades

  • Filter tagged wrong name → bulk add correct tag → manually remove wrong tag or support-assisted cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

Do bulk tags append or replace?

Typically append—read confirmation dialog for “replace all tags” warnings.

How many tags per bulk action?

Multiple tags per apply is supported; avoid tagging 10 tags at once on every trade.

Can mentees bulk tag?

Only with write permission on your account or their own journal.

Do tags affect taxes?

Tags are organizational; P&L uses broker numbers (Incorrect P&L if mismatched).

Can I bulk remove tags?

Depends on version—often per-trade or filter + bulk replace; ask support for mass remove.

Will bulk tag slow my account?

Negligible for hundreds; thousands—batch by month.

Tags categorize trades; Notebook holds longer narrative.

Import CSV with tag column?

Some imports map columns—see CSV Import Errors if column ignored.

Bulk tag during market hours?

Safe anytime; tags do not affect live broker orders.

Color tags matter for reports?

Colors aid UI scan; analytics group by name not color.

Bulk tagging setups common on NSE and BSE

Structured tags turn noisy sync logs into readable tag performance slices. Many Indian traders bulk-apply tags like orb-breakout, vwap-reclaim, expiry-scalp, or event-gap after filtering a symbol (RELIANCE, BANKNIFTY) and session date. Create tags first in create custom tags so bulk apply does not invent inconsistent spellings.

After connecting Dhan or Groww alongside Zerodha, tag by account scope before bulk apply so the same symbol on two brokers does not share one strategy label incorrectly. Bulk tag adds in most builds—plan a naming convention up front. For earnings season, filter the week, tag results-trade, and export via export filtered for mentor review. Avoid tagging every trade A+—reserve bulk tags for homogeneous batches and hand-rate mixed days with rate trades. Clean tags improve generate AI analytics summaries when you use AI features on Pro.

Maintain a short tag dictionary in your notebook: allowed names, when to use them, and which are deprecated. Before each bulk apply, read the confirmation count aloud (“Applying vwap-reclaim to 14 trades”)—if the number surprises you, cancel and re-filter.

For BTST and positional books, tag entry day and exit day trades separately when your journal reviews holds across sessions—bulk tag exit-day fills after the position closes so intraday filters stay honest. Pair tags with search trades before month-end to catch untagged stragglers. Run bulk operations from desktop when tagging more than one hundred rows in a single session. Keep tag names short and ASCII-friendly so CSV exports stay readable for CAs.
