How to Close an Open Position
Overviewβ
Exit an active trade and realize your profit or loss.
Important Noteβ
β οΈ Tradelyser is a tracking and analysis tool, not a trading platform. You must close positions through your broker's platform (Zerodha, Fyers, etc.)
Stepsβ
1. Close via Your Brokerβ
- Login to your broker app/platform
- Go to Positions or Holdings
- Select position to close
- Click "Exit" or "Square Off"
- Confirm the order
- Position closed in market

2. Sync in Tradelyserβ
If Broker Connected (Auto-Sync):
- Position updates automatically
- Moves to Closed Trades
- P&L finalized
- Wait 5-10 minutes for sync
If Manual Entry:
- Go to Open Positions in Tradelyser
- Click on position
- Click "Close Position" or "Mark as Closed"
- Enter exit price and time
- Save

3. Verify Closureβ
- Check Trades Log
- Position now appears as completed trade
- Unrealized P&L β Realized P&L
- All metrics updated

Success!β
Position is closed and P&L is realized.

Auto-Sync Behaviorβ
Connected Brokerβ
- You close position in broker
- Sync happens automatically (every 15-30 mins)
- Or click "Sync Now" for immediate update
- Position moves to Trades log
Manual Syncβ
If auto-sync enabled but not updating:
- Go to Settings > Accounts
- Click "Sync Now" on broker account
- Wait for sync completion
- Position should update

Manual Position Closureβ
For Non-Connected Brokersβ
- Open position in Tradelyser
- Click "Close Position"
- Enter:
- Exit Date: Date of closure
- Exit Time: Time of closure
- Exit Price: Actual exit price
- Brokerage: Fees paid
- Taxes: Taxes paid (if known)
- Click "Save"

Partial Closingβ
Close in Stagesβ
Example: 100 shares position
- Close 50 shares first
- Update position quantity (50 remaining)
- Later close remaining 50
- Two separate trades created
Or: Keep as single trade
- Average exit price calculated
- One trade entry with weighted avg
Intraday vs Deliveryβ
Intraday Positionsβ
- Usually auto-squared off at 3:20 PM
- Broker closes automatically
- Sync to see in Tradelyser
- Check if stopped out or exited
Delivery Positionsβ
- You control when to exit
- Can hold overnight, days, weeks
- Close when strategy says
- Update in Tradelyser after broker exit
